2007-2008 Audition Requirements


Scales / Rudiments: 20 pts.

Strings, Brass, Woodwind

A Major, E-flat Major & G minor scales
-up and down - 2 octaves.

Percussion

Snare drum - Double stroke roll and orchestral roll - slow
to fast to slow
Timpani - Demonstrate tuning capabilities; single stroke roll
Xylophone - D Major scale - up and down - 2 octaves.
Accessory instruments - Demonstrate techniques on triangle,
tambourine, bass drum, crash cymbals, suspended cymbal

Prepared piece of your choice: 20 pts.
This can be a solo, etude, or music you have worked on with your
high school ensemble. Select music that you believe would best represent
your musical abilities.

Sight reading: 20 pts.
Chosen by conductor.

Conductor's concerns: 20 pts.

Auditions will consist of playing required scales, prepared solo of your choice and sight-reading.

Violin: D Major 2-octave
G melodic minor 2-octave

Viola: G Major 2-octave
C melodic minor 2-octave

Cello: A Major 2-octave
G melodic minor 2-octave

Bass: G Major 1-octave
A minor 1-octave

WOODWINDS:
*All scales are written pitch, not concert pitch

Flute: E Major 2-octave
F melodic minor 2-octave

Oboe: D Major 1-octave
G melodic minor – 1-octave

Bassoon: F Major 1-octave
G melodic minor 1-octave

Clarinet: A Major – 2-octave
G melodic minor – 2-octave

BRASS:
*All scales are written pitch, not concert pitch

F Horn:
A Major – 1-octave
C melodic minor – 1-octave

Trumpet:
D Major – 1-octave
F melodic minor – 1-octave

Trombone:
D Major – 1-octave
F melodic minor – 1-octave (beginning on F below the staff)

Tuba:
D Major – 1-octave
F melodic minor – 1-octave

PERCUSSION:
*All percussionists auditioning will be required to demonstrate ability on Timpani, Xylophone and Snare Drum.

Timpani:
Demonstrate ability to tune to given pitch in the audition.
Demonstrate single-stroke roll on timpani.

Xylophone:
D Major – 2 octave
C melodic minor – 2 octave
Demonstrate single-stroke roll on bells.

Snare Drum:
Double-stroke roll and orchestral roll – slow to fast to slow


Prepared piece of your choice: 20 points
This can be a solo or etude you have worked on by yourself or with a teacher. Select music that you believe would best represent your musical abilities.


Sight-reading: 20 points
